Northern Health Offers Injury Prevention Grants
By 250 News
Northern Health is calling for project proposals to reduce preventable injuries in Northern British Columbia.
Several grants of $500 to $1000 each will be available through NH’s annual Injury Prevention Program.
The grants totaling $10,000 are available to local community organizations. Proposed injury prevention projects should be based on community-identified needs.
"We know that up to 90 per cent of injuries can be prevented," said Denise Foucher, Northern Health Injury Prevention Coordinator. "Preventable injuries kill more children and youth than all other causes combined. Seniors’ falls are one of the leading causes of hospitalization in Canada.
"Also, people living in Northern BC are 2.5 times more likely to die in a motor vehicle crash than others across the province. By working together with our local communities, we hope to establish initiatives that will decrease the injury rates in our region."
Funding criteria for the grants include:
* Raising awareness of injuries.
* Including injury prevention education.
* Showing community groups working together.
* Showing benefits to the larger community.
* Showing how the effects of this project would be ongoing/sustainable.
* Including a budget plan and Submitting a project evaluation.
Grant application deadline is October 26, 2007.
More information is available on the grant applications by contacting either Ester Brisch, 250-638-2241 or Denise Foucher, 250-565-7394
