Prince George City Council has agreed to pick up the tab for  the printing of a special housing guide for seniors.  The cost of printing the guide is estimated to be about $2,000.00

The Council of Seniors  has produced a 60 page book  outlining housing options for seniors in the Prince George area.

Calls to the Council of Seniors asking for information on  affordable housing  have increased by 400% over the past four years.  In fact,  while the general population in Prince George slipped during that time,  the actual number of people over the age of 65 increased. Not only is affordability an issue but housing must be appropriate.

Access is the top priority.  Many of the buildings in Prince George, have seven steps going down to the "first" floor, and seven steps up to the second floor.  Those steps provide a challenge for seniors  who use walkers or  who are on oxygen.

Seniors consulted for this guide, told the  Council one size does not  fit all when it comes to housing for seniors.

The guide summarizes all care facilities in the City and 31 apartment buildings and condos in Prince George.

The guide, in draft form, can be viewed on the Council of Seniors website.
