New Rules Soon For Gas Stations
By 250 News
Gas stations throughout B.C. will soon have new rules for operations, new rules that are designed to protect their staff from gas and dash customers.
Called "Grant’s Law" the legislation would mean gas stations will have to have a pre-pay system in place if they plan to operate after 10 p.m.
The legislation also requires a barier between customers and employees be in place from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and if no barrier, then there must be two employees on site.
The law is in response to the tragic dragging death of Grant DePatie. In March of 2005, he tried to stop a driver from stealing 12 dollars worth of gas from the Maple RIdge gas station where he worked. He was hit by the car and dragged to his death.
The new regulations are expected to be in place by early 2008.
