Prince George Family of Fallen Soldier Plans Foundation

A  Foundation has been launched in the memory of Corporal Matthew McCully,  a Canadian  Armed Forces  soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.

Prince George, B.C. -  Fighting back tears,  Ron McCully, the father of  fallen soldier Cpl. Matthew McCully, has announced the family will establish the Matthew McCully Foundation. 

The Foundation  will undertake a national campaign to promote initiatives in support of Canada’s Armed Forces.
"Canada has made a commitment to the international community to continue to fight for democracy and freedom in Afghanistan through 2009 and we must honor that commitment" said McCully.  He was joined on the platform by Michelle,  Matthew's step mother.
The Foundation has a series of events planned;
  • A Gala dinner and silent Auction fundraiser on Nov 17th at the Coast Inn. Tickets are $100 dollars available at the Coast front desk.
  • “Support Our Troops” thank you banners that can be signed by Prince George residents
  • “Support Our Troops”  national speaking tour, starting in local and regional schools
  • The Matthew McCully Foundation will establish a scholarship at UNBC  and  will
  • Work with the military in Kingston, Ont. To establish a permanent monument in memory of those in Matthew’s unit who were killed in Afghanistan.  

Corporal Matthew McCully  (shown at right) died in Afghanistan in late May.  

A member of 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group Headquarters and Signal Squadron (2 CMBG HQ & Sig Sqn), based in Petawawa, Ontario, Corporal McCully was killed May 25th  while conducting  a joint Afghan-Canadian foot patrol close to the  village of Nalgham, about 35 kilometres west of Kandahar City.
