Work  begins today on the twinning of the Simon Fraser Bridge.  The funding for the project is now secure, with  the Federal Government  agreeing to  contribute up to $18 million dollars for the  project which is expected to  cost  around $42 million.

The new price tag is  $9.5 million  more than the Province had originally budgeted, but  $5 million less than the  lowest bid  submitted   one year ago when the  project first went to tender.

The  $1.18 million dollar design for the  twin crossing  has just recently been completed, and  is expected to  be out for tender for construction within two weks.

Deputy Premier Shirely Bond says the crews  starting work today are "day labour"

"We are using hired equipment and day labour to begin the access work" says Bond.

The bridge  is expected to be complete in 2009.

Well at lest their wont be a bottle neck on the bridge..but what about 4 laning from the south???
The government's description of the Simon Fraser Bridge to Sintich Road improvement reads as follows:

New Two Lane Bridge northbound.
Rehabilitate existing 2-lane bridge southbound.
Reconstruct Queensway interchange.
4-lane highway 97 to Sintich Road.
Completion: 2009

The Cariboo Connector program is divided into several phases, this project is part of phase one.

oh ok.....makes more sense then!
Once the new bridge is built how long will the old one be shut down for rehabilitation? Remember when they built the underpass.
Keep the underpass fer the homeless.
