Prince George, B.C. -  The dates have been set for the inquest into the police shooting death of Donald Dwayne Lewis.

The 43 year old man died on August 13th in 2006, following  an  altercation with  the Williams Lake RCMP  on a  road near Mcleese Lake.

Mcleese  Lake  locals say he had been camping on the side of the road.  At the time, the RCMP  issued a release  saying  they had responded to "a call of a suspicious male  camping in an  area about 2 kilometres norheast of Highway 97  in the  area of Mcleese Lake , B.C. "

The release explained the incident as:

"it appears from the initial review with the member inolved that a violent struggle ensued. Our member used the least amount of force initially, however, he was unable to bring the male under control.  Fearing for his life, the officer discharged his serve pistol.  The male succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene."

The inquest is scheduled for Nov. 26-30, 2007. and will take place in the BC Supreme Court , Courtroom 401, 540  Borland Street, Williams Lake.

Presiding Coroner Shane DeMeyer and a five-person jury will publicly hear evidence from subpoenaed witnesses in order to determine the facts surrounding the death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances in the future.

"...recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances in the future." ??

Don't respond to calls to investigate suspious indiviuals.

And at least four cops per vehicle at all times in case they have to arrest someone. Sell the cop cars and equip the RCMP with 7 passenger vans. Have a helicopter hovering over head ready to drop a net on the suspect.
You really do have to wonder Yama!
My first thoughts are regarding situations of this nature in general.
Why are the RCMP sending officers into unknown situations alone?
And how many have there been where a one on one has resulted in somebody getting shot?
Wouldn't you assume that something was unusual about a guy camping on the "side of the road" in an area where there would be no back up and maybe a couple of cops should attend?
Is it a staffing issue?
Or just bad judgement?
Or bad training?
The very fact that somebody complained about the guy being there in the first place should have told them that there was some concerns and caution should be exercised.
Another weird one for the books!

Is this a copy/paste statement they use? Hmmm where have I heard this one before?
Wow, Heidi how do you always seem to know what happened without actually being there? Amazing.
Hi Trollie!!!! Wow, i sure have missed you! It just sounds like a script is all that they picked up in the How to Excuse a Shooting 101 class. No, I wasn't there and no I don't know if this guy was violent or officer afraid as he was alone and afraid. It's just the same words used over and over and over and over...on and on as so many people have died in this hunting game. Was death the only answer is my question.
Deaths of who? Drunken, crazy violent people who attack cops?
Or deaths of people who were handcuffed to a tree and end up shot afterwards.

Please explain...
Oh,I forgot, you were there with Heidi.
