Prince George, B.C. - Think of it as the  Community in Bloom project only it isn’t flowers, and it’s brighter.

The City of Prince George’s WinterLights Committee is making available Community Enhancement Grants  to help local community groups take part in Prince George’s WinterLights celebration.

The national WinterLights program encourages municipalities to celebrate light with decorative, cultural and spiritual programs. The competition also helps to foster greater civic pride and increase winter tourism opportunities.

If you are interested in applying for a WinterLights Community Enhancement Grant, you have to show the project will add value to the community by hosting an event or a visual display with a winter theme.

Some project ideas include:

  1. o Neighbourhood decorations with winter lights themes;

  2. o Small Business window decorations;

  3. o Special events organized around a winter theme

Grants are available to a maximum of $1000 with participants providing at least 50% of project costs.

The deadline is  close,  as applications have to be submitted by  4:30 pm Thursday, November 1st, 2007.
