Another Olympics and PG Taxpayers Will Pay for Another Trip For City Hall: One Man's Opinion

I wonder how many of the people who read this item will remember to vote come next November's civic election?

In the New Year the City Of Prince George will sit down and explore the idea of the Mayor and a delegation going to Beijing during the Olympics

We don’t at this point know who all may make the trip, we know the Mayor is going for sure; the delegation that goes with him is yet to be named.

Now lets sit down for a moment and look at all of the good things that came out of the trip to Torino, well we did get one skater, a French team of some sort and the Korean curlers, so if you add up what they gave in the way of economic input in the city I am sure we are only out oh say 40 thousand dollars on that one.

Now you also may have forgotten when the Mayor and crew headed off to Taiwan to meet with someone, planting seed for industrial development here and also showing off our wood products, well regretfully we didn’t get anything there as well.

Oh did I forget the second trip?

Of course then there was the trip to Ottawa that Golly Gee whiz just happened to coincide with the Grey Cup Game. Did the powers to be say, hell we went early so we could see the game?  Of course not they tried instead to give it another spin.

What is so sad in all this is that we went through an election following the trips to China and the same folks that voted for the trip were re elected.

And so come next Novembe,r when we head off to the polls and the same bunch are reelected, do not look any further than  your own mirror if you are looking for someone to blame.

We will again receive exactly what we complained about, but never lifted our butts off the sofa to change.

I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

Here's a thought...

Maybe the majority of people in PG aren't as lazy as you think they are AND maybe they actually think marketing PG in this way is a good thing.

Nah..couldn't be.
Your on the money Ben. Nah..couldn't be if your blind.

Cheers
Why was it not a City priority to fix totally cracked and potholed 5th Avenue from Carney Street to Central?

10th Avenue likewise is in a disgraceful condition...

Ah, well.
Diplomat. With the Moronic closing of the Cameron St., Bridge, which at the very least should have been opened to passenger cars, the City wouldnt dare shut down 5th Avenue from Carney to the bypass. This would have caused all sorts of traffic problems, and once again would have pointed out their inability to be honest, and upfront with taxpayers, and to do the right thing when required, rather than always finding ways to spend taxpayers money and keep the contractors happy.
Lets be sure we get all the trips lined up.

Our Mayor being on the executive of the World Winter Cities Association for Mayors will in all likely hood attend the conference in Nuuk Greenland, in January of 2008, and then in August off to Bejing for the Olympics.

Then comes the Municipal Elections in November. No doubt our illustrious Mayor will run (and probably win)unless voters smarten up.

Once past the 2008 elections the Mayor has graciously agreed to host the 2010 World Winter Mayors conference in Prince George. I beleive that he agreed to this without any input from the other Councillors, or any dialogue with taxpayers, and so far no indication of the cost.

After the 2010 Conference (The following week) its off to Whistler for the 2010 Olympics.

After the 2010 Olympics we shift into cruise mode to 2011, retire on a fat pension, and its Via Condeos Amigo's
Contrary to popular belief, hizzoner does not have his travel agent on speed dial.
Beijing sister city as in air quality only?
"Then comes the Municipal Elections in November."

I read that at the last meeting of the BC municipalities a resolution was passed to get the government to change the law and extend the term from 3 years to 4 years.

It fell on very sympathetic ears, so watch out - they might be around until 2009.

You have a point about fixing the cracks and potholes on 5th Avenue, although I just wished that they had done at least a patching job which doesn't require closing the street altogether.

If I heard the mayor correctly he hinted during the Council Meeting that the province would pay for re-doing 5th once the infamous Cameron Street bridge is open again.

3 more years? I will look for an alternate route again, just like I try not to use 10th whenever possible.
