I believe a frontal lobotomy and castration is called for in this case, any volunteers to do the surgery?
Now think about it; keep this sicko out of jail, but render him harmless, would that not save us a lot of money in the long run?
metalman.
Metalman you obviously don't follow law very well. This man was charged with possession of porn from the internet. He was basically charged with internet crimes. He wasn't charged with sex crimes because he was only on the internet. And this all took place a couple years ago. They obviously thought he posed no risk to let him live free until now. If you knew how the system worked, there is no doubt they would have been doing evaluations and requiring him to get help until this trial. I am familiar with how the judicial system works and I have seen how others go through this system, so I know how this process works. It's sad to see how people jump on the media bandwagon and will often misinterpret the charges given. Hopefully somebody gives people like you, Metalman, a frontal lobotomy at the least.
Now you know why a picture is worth a thousand words.
Excellent plea bargain again. How many charges were dropped in favour of this lesser one. Turn em loose it's cheaper. Better yet why waste the time of charging them.
It's a good thing we don't follow law very well, we would be even more angry.

Uh Metalman, if we do that lobotomy and castration, then my medical fees go up along with the cost of looking after this scum.

It's cheaper to incarcerate this loser for a long time.

I honestly think that any time you committ any crime and there are kids involved be it porno or drugs, then your sentence automatically triples.

We owe it to the kids to help protect them.
"If you knew how the system worked, there is no doubt they would have been doing evaluations and requiring him to get help until this trial. "

Wrong answer. This is only done after conviction. You cannot include this in bail conditions because it prejudices the accused party. He was released because he was not considered a danger to the community. (as you said, he was looking at pictures, not acting out on them)

Evaluations are done as part of a Pre-Sentence Report (after conviction), and "getting help" is included in sentencing (after pre-sentence report and sentencing hearing).

Lastly, he was distributing child pornography, perpetuating the cycle of abuse of children. Remember that this crap has to come from somewhere. Just because you didn't hold the kid down and take the picture, doesn't exonerate you of being a part of this brutal crime.

I have never seen a case of a child requesting to perform sex acts and be photographed, or requesting to pose naked and be photographed...hell, most ADULTS will refuse to be photographed naked.

Think of the trauma and terror that these kids face, and we do nothing but shake our heads.

"We owe it to the kids to help protect them"

I echo those sentiments, as adults we are responsible for protecting the kids...period. Not prey on them.

For you to rise to the defence of someone guilty of such sickening acts, it makes me wonder..."What the hell is the matter with your head ?"

OK, maybe my feelings are a mite strong on the matter, and this was not a case of actual assault on children, but from the response given by 'OPIE' perhaps he/she/it is in favour of supporting perverts like Ahola, I don't know. I am a layman, apparently Opie is an expert on the law, and all the power to him/her/it, but to speak out in the defense of an obvious pervert makes me wonder about what he/she/it does for amusement.
There must be some reason why governments around the world have decided that child pornography is against the law.
And to wish a frontal lobotomy on me, Opie, is simply childish, grow up!
metalman.
