For the third year in a row, Maclean’s magazine has ranked UNBC the best small university in western Canada. UNBC is fourth in the “Primarily Undergraduate” category, matching its best-ever rating. The three universities that placed higher than UNBC are all located in Atlantic Canada and each is more than 150 years old.

In arriving at its rating for each university, Maclean’s measures thirteen factors within broad categories: students and classes, faculty, research and operating funding, student support, the Library, and the institution’s reputation. Following its success in being named one of Canada’s Research Universities of the Year for 2007, UNBC placed first among small universities nationwide for its ability to attract research funding. A total of 21 small universities in Canada are included in the ranking.

“We have terrific faculty, fantastic students, great relationships with communities throughout the North, and a wonderful environment for teaching and research. It’s no wonder UNBC continues to perform well in Maclean’s,” says UNBC President Don Cozzetto. “All those associated with UNBC should take pride in this accomplishment.”
