Province Delivers Grants in Lieu of Taxes

Prince George  has received $1,850,457.26 in the form of  grants in lieu of taxes from the Province.

The amount is  part of the $15.9 million  dollars handed out to  63 municipalities this year.

Grants-in-lieu of property taxes are distributed as a way to compensate municipalities for services that benefited government properties such as roads, sewers, and fire protection.

The grants are based on the assessed value of provincially owned office buildings and other properties in each municipality.

Now, hopefully this money will be applied to the improvement of roads, sewer and fire protection. We have been complaining about not receiving our share for infrastructure. Well, we did receive a sizable amount from our province, so let's be thankful for what we did receive. Seems generous in comparison to other communities. Chester
