The Metropolis project proposed by Yves Ghiai  for downtown Prince George,  is expected to go ahead in the spring of 2008.

Ian Wells, of the City of Prince George Real Estate Division says all indications are the project is going ahead “According to the e-mails I have seen between Mr. Ghiai and his contractors, construction should begin next spring.”

Wells confirms that Ghiai does in fact have contractors who will get the project rolling.

The plans for Metropolis,  a  building that  would make a mix of street level retail  and condominiums, have  gone through some changes since first announced in the fall of  2005 just before the last municipal elections.

Initially, there was a requirement that all the living units be sold before construction could start, then there were issues about the rising cost of construction followed by  a  shortage of  available "sub-trades.

In the meantime, the property  ( block at 5th and Quebec) has been on hold since the fall of 2005.

Wells has already indicated the property  will not  be  signed over to  Yves Ghiai or anyone else until a performance covenant is signed, ensuring that the property will not sit vacant.

Can someone please get out a violin and play it .....
I'll believe it when I see it....
So is the completion date set for October 2008? That would be perfect timing for the next election.

Amazing - two elections with one stone.
Only a Tim Horton's is capable of being built that fast. But, if it is into the ground, that should be plenty good enough.
Waiting to see a picture of Superman on the project sign. Metropolis? Ya right.
