The College of New Caledonia, working with Northern Health, is offering up to 50 new seats in the Home Support / Resident Care Program in the communities of Vanderhoof, Quesnel, and Fraser Lake.
CNC will receive up to $425,000 from the BC Health Education Foundation to offer the programs. Patricia Covington, Dean of Health Sciences at CNC, points out that “the college has worked very hard with Northern Health and regional communities to ensure the training needs for these communities are not only met, but conducted in these communities.”
Like the Medical program at the Univeristy of Northern B.C. the idea is that if trained in their home communities, graduates will stay in the home communities, reducing the necessity to recruit and retain others with the same training.
CNC is experiencing growth, in health sciences and trades training, and a significant part of that growth is happening through regional community-based training.
