Highway 97 at Old Cariboo Highway Reopened after Rash of Crashes
By 250 News
Prince George RCMP attended the scene of four different accidents involving ten vehicles on Highway 97 south at the old Art Knapps this morning.
In conjunction with the Ministry of Highways the RCMP ordered that stretch of highway closed. The highway remained closed from Sintich Road to Buckhorn Road for about four hours until all the vehicles could be towed from the scene. The roadway was reopened about 12:35 this afternoon.
Initially Police were called to attend a roll over just before nine this morning. There was a blanket of fog, on the highway at the time of the initial roll over, and there was a chain reaction of crashes, either hitting each other or hitting the ditch.
The scene looked like a bad game of bumper cars.
Police say miraculously, there was only one person who was injured, and the injury is minor.
Police are saying people continue to drive too fast for the conditions and drivers will be charged accordingly. Among the vehicles involved were cars, trucks towing trailers, a transport truck, and a number of picks ups.
