Former Prince George Spruce Kings forward Ryan Hill has been handed a conditional 12 month sentence for an incident in February in a BC Hockey League game between Prince George and Quesnel.

Hill cross checked Soloman McCann in a game between the Kings and Millionaires at CN Centre. McCann has since recovered and Hill was suspended for 12 games by the BCHL.

Originally charged with assault with a weapon, Hill pleaded guilty to common assault. Today he was given the 12 month conditional sentence  which means, if he stays of trouble for the  length of the sentence, he won't have a criminal record.  Hill  currently plays Port Hope in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League.

I would say he has a guardian angel sitting on his shoulder.
I wonder ..........
I think that this was just another waste of our tax dollars in use. This had no right to be in the court system. If this situation had been reversed would Mr McCann have been pushing for his son to be brought up on charges? I think not. Mr McCann has played enough hockey that he knows sometimes this is how hits like the one his son threw are dealt with. Although I would have elected to not use my stick the outcome would have still been the same and perhaps the damage inflicted would have been alot worse, would I have still been brought up on charges I doubt it. Unless some parent was okay with the low blow his son threw and not with the justice handed out after words. It has always been and should always be Live by the sword die by the sword. You want to throw a dirty low hit take your lumps.

I know I sound like some neanderthal has been but that is the way of the game. If you don't like it sit back down in your chair and turn on your figure skating or basketball. Oh wait there is violence in those as well. Maybe turn off your TV and go to starbucks were you belong.
I disagree with you apester.
You say that is the way of the game, in my opinion it is that way because society has allowed to to become that.
I rechecked the rules, don't see one place wher it ways assaulting another player is allowed....
in fact it says no fighting.....hmmmm
I still think he is lucky....in many ways...
But before my dreaded nemisis arrives, I shall say, if you enjoy hockey, attend, watch, and have fun.
There is an unwritten rule about respecting each other on the ice. When a smaller player takes out the knee of a bigger better player on the other team he has gone way overboard in the disrespect arena. The said player should then expect that same disrespect in return and be prepared for what and when it may come. A low hit that then disables a player for a period of 6 months is also against the rules. My biggest beef with this whole situation is that it doesn't belong in the courts. We will have differing opinions on this subject and that is a good thing. I think one of these players got what he deserved and the other got raked through the courts for no reason.
