The announcement by Canfor that it is cutting 300 jobs at three Prince George sawmills and the Mackenzie mill won't likely have any impact on logging truck drivers.
Burke Purdon of the logging truck company Burke Purdon Enterprises Ltd. says the trucks in the region are being told by Canfor that while there will be a reduction in the hauling of saw logs to the mills, the hauls will be replaced with pulp logs, and that should off set any of the hit that could come from the elimination of a third shift at four Canfor sawmills.
“We are hanging our hopes on that,” Purdon said.
What other mills are going to do in light of the announced cuts at Canfor is not known and the smaller players in the region are not commenting.
