Mackenzie Mayor Stephanie Killam says the loss of another 74 jobs is another hit in that community. She made the comment after CANFOR announced  it will cut their work force in that community.  (see previous story)

“We do know that the next year is going to be tough in our community” says Mayor Killam, "but remember, we still have the best fiber basket in the province and these companies are not going to completely shut down because they still need access to this product at some point."

"Things don’t look good right now but we need to look forward to spring when things will look better. The problem is right at this moment we don’t have anything concrete to show the people who are losing their jobs, but we will in the future. It is definitely bad timing “.

Canfor announced today the mill in Mackenzie will drop from three to two shifts, laying off  74 people, this is in addition to the 150 jobs  which were  cut earlier this year in an effort to save  the Mackenzie mill from indefinite closure.
