Prince George, B.C.- The plans to replace the Cameron Street Bridge are on target says Bob Radloff the Director of Development Services for the City of Prince George.

Radloff says there are discussions underway with the Heritage Commission to preserve one span of the bridge.

The Railway and Forestry Museum is hoping to be the new home of the preserved span of the old Cameron Street Bridge.

The cost of dismantling, moving, and rebuilding the span on the new site at the museum has not yet been determined.

Radloff says the design of the replacement bridge is nearing completion.

Meantime, the  design of the twinning of the Simon Fraser Bridge is nearly  set to go to tender.

The  Ministry of Transportation has been using day contractors to  prepare the site for  eventual construction.  The design  is expected to be  out for tender in the coming weeks.  The contract to build  will likely be awarded early in the new year.  T

he Ministry  believes splitting the contract into a design, then build section  will  reduce the construction costs.  The  initial tender  included design and construction  and the lowest bid was $15 million over the budget.  The Ministry does not expect  any further surprises.

Well, to avoid any more suprises... I suspect they might want to update their information on the Simon Fraser Bridge... the job went to tender about six weeks ago and the closing was Nov 21... unverified bid results are already posted.

Goodtimes...

Irronically, the tender award has been released today. The mistake in this article may be for the Cameron Street bridge replacement and not the Simon Fraser bridge.
