Common Sense, Where Is It When You Need It?

Common sense is a great thing and there for all of us to use.

Unfortunately common sense didn’t factor in the decision to award a five year contract for two four wheel drive backhoes to a Quesnel company because it will cost 34.04 cents more a month per unit  to have awarded the contract to a local company, Inland Kenworth.

Common sense should have said wait a minute if we have a break down, the savings will be more than eaten up in one trip north for a year. If the city calls Douglas Lake Ranch to do some work on the machines only once a year, those savings will be eaten upin travel costs.
Never mind the fact that city workers will be sitting on their buts waiting for a repairman to come to the city to do the work.

The people over at the yard were quick to spot the problem; city brass must have been oblivious to their concerns.

The bid says the lowest bid will not necessarily be accepted. That clearly is the reason why it is contained in the document. Somehow when you look at the facts in the issue you come away feeling that in many cases city hall just doesn’t grasp the big picture.

I’m Meisner and that is one man’s opinion.

Let's face it...anthing is possible...but we should be careful not to insinuate something about Kenworth unless we KNOW something others do not. Otherwise, it isn't fair. If there is some merit to what you are suggesting....then wasn't there are choice # 3???? Did no other locals companies bid??? If one did, and they were higher yet....it still would have saved money going locally! Ben....was there anyone else in the running????
