Once again, the City of Prince George is paying the price for  the recent national Census.    The official  count pegged the population below levels the City  believes it has.

this time, the  mpact came n the form of  the  loss of a vote on Regional District.  Used to be prince George hade 19 votes, but that has been  trimmed back to 18  because of the lower population numbers.

Councillor Bassermann says  there has be a better job of communicating to the public the impact of  not being counted  "We need to find a way to  educate the community that there is a cost when we don't get counted."

TheCity has launched an apeal of the census  and Mayor Kinsley is optimistic." Banff  appealed their count,  they had been counted as having 6600, but when the appeal was finished they were closer to  8800."  The impact of a low count has already been felt financially says the Mayor "We recently got a tourism grant and once again, the amount was based on population and the amount was lower.  I  think our population count was out by about 10%  , but we  will have to wait and see  how the appeal  turns out"

There is no word on when that appeal will be complete.
