"Last year we were fortunate to not experience even more severe flooding, thanks in part to the massive volunteer effort from the community," said MLA John Rustad.  "This funding will help to mitigate potential flood situations in the future."

Funding in the amount of $156,500 will go to engineering and design work for flood protection on the Nechako River at Vanderhoof. This project is being funded under the 10-year $100 million British Columbia Flood Protection Program.

...and about time too!
ALCAN LIKES TO KEEP THEIR PIGGY BANK FULL, AND RIGHT NOW THE KENNY DAM RESEVOIR IS ALMOST AT A RECORD LEVEL FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. GIVEN THE RIGHT CONDITIONS, VANDERHOOF COULD EXPERIENCE MORE FLOODING NEXT YEAR. ITS GOOD TO SEE THE FLOOD PROGRAM STARTING. HOPE IT ISN'T TOO LATE.
If only we didn't have to endure all the politics to get what should have been ours a long time ago.
This problem should have been a thing of the past.
Interesting that the taxpayers are funding this when it is Alcan's greed that is causing the prolonged flooding.

-Just curious where you got that info from? The natural watersheds are already high and the snow is getting up there in the mountians so we might have trouble again next spring.
