Ft. St John Hospital Gets CT Scanner

    Residents of northeastern BC will have better access to medical imaging services with the installation of a new CT scanner at Fort St. John Hospital, thanks to a generous funding commitment from the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation.

Fort St. John patients who need CT scans now travel to Dawson Creek and District Hospital for the service. Adding a CT scanner at Fort St. John Hospital will lead to improved access at Dawson Creek and District Hospital for South Peace residents and improve wait times for medical imaging across the Northeast Health Service Delivery Area. Fort St. John and Dawson Creek will have the ability to back each other up, making sure that CT scanner services stay available even if one unit may be undergoing routine repairs.

The Fort St. John Hospital Foundation has committed to raising $1.3 million toward the cost of the new CT scanner. The total cost is estimated at $1.75 million, including the equipment, renovations to accommodate the scanner and electrical/computer system upgrades that the unit will need. Northern Health will fund the rest of the costs through its capital allocation from the Government of British Columbia.

CT exams involve specialized equipment that requires staff with specialized training. Though technologists can be difficult to recruit, Fort St. John and Dawson Creek are fortunate to have the highly-skilled staff available to provide these services in a timely manner.
