Postal boxes on Bench Drive in Prince George the second set of mail boxes to be hit be thieves

For the second time in a week ,thieves have targeted mail boxes in the North Nechako area of the city.

Prince George RCMP  say in the latest incident, the mail boxes in the 6100 block of Bench Dr. were hit sometime prior to 4:30 am Thursday morning.  The thief has been using a screw driver to gain entry into the boxes, and then cleaning them out.

Police advise people not to send cash in the mail which it is believed to be what these thieves were after.

The thieves pride open 27 mail compartments and 4 parcel compartments on Dec 5th on North Nechako Road.

In both cases it is not known what all has been taken.

Mark Scott, Supervisor of  Station H for Canada Post says in all, 31 people will have to come down to the Post office on 15th , produce some identification and proof of residency and they will receive a new key for their mail lock boxes.

As for the theft from the mail boxes, Scott says the sender is the person who can claim the loss with Canada Post, they will need to provide some sort of receipt, and show where the item was going. The receiving party, because they did not buy the gift, is not the party to make the claim.
