Prince George residents have a right to know if Alcan’s decisions at Kitimat have been a factor in the flooding that has forced people out of their homes and away from their jobs.

Simpson, NDP MLA ,  says Alcan increased its outflow from its Skins Lake spillway about two weeks ago. Simpson said the Prince George Liberal MLAs should be demanding an investigation to determine whether that was a factor in the floods that have put homes and businesses in jeopardy this week.

“People I’ve talked to want to know if Alcan played any role in this flooding,” Simpson said. “The Environment Minister should be asking Alcan some serious questions.”

At issue is not only Alcan’s potential responsibility for the damage and loss of livelihood faced by Prince George residents, but also a lesson in preventing similar winter flooding from happening again.

“Alcan has control over the river levels, especially at this time of the year,” said Simpson.

“People who live along the river need to have some assurance that the company is taking the local residents’ concerns to heart when they make their outflow decisions.”

It's an ice jam, Mr. Bob Simpson.

"Demanding an investigation" "People I've talked to want to know if Alcan played any role in ths flooding". What is your opinion Bob? What do you think?

Sounds like he's looking to blame somebody rather than helping find solutions to the situation we are facing. Chester
I agree Chester. Simpson the (Whining NDP'R )is starting to get on my nerves. Everyone knows that he is trying to position himself for the leadership of the NDP once they knock off Carol James.

Like all NDP socialists they are long on yapping and short on solutions. Much like a Mexican Hairless, running and barking around the legs of a Bull Mastiff.

Simpson should take a break.
No disaster is small enough for the NDP to crawl around in looks for votes. Sick pick.
Well I do not know guys, but it seems that the government line of natural phenominon is a little weak. The outflows from the skins are increased dramatically, causing the water in the Nechako to run faster, hence making it less likely to freeze, as normal, runs into the Fraser which has frozen, as normal, and presto, ice jams, backups, Flooding. and I will add I,m not an NDP'r, just a concerned resident. For years I had discussions with Alcan during the spring floods, they stated at that time they never did downstream surveys, testing to see the consequence of flooding. Then they altimately stated to me that the government tells them what releases to do, but ask the gov. and they say it is all Alcans decisions. who do you believe.
It doesnt matter who you ask. Once the basin is full and the water is still rising you have to release it into the Nechako. Even if the downed generator was repaired there would still be some release.

Thats why they have a release in addition to raising the water during Salmon Runs.
