Ice Jam Holding at 2 Kilometres

Ice jam is below the Cameron Street Bridge
Prince George, B.C - The ice jam that has forced the Nechako River to spill its banks has shrunk to a 2 kilometers in length from the 6 kilometers it had been on early Saturday. (

The river has cut its own channel through Cottonwood Island Park, and some water is making it to the Fraser. On the north side of the river, (see photo at right ) water is perculating up through the ground which has resulted in 6 more homes being evacuated.
Gabion dikes are visible, and they snake their way through the busineses on the River Road side of the Nechako River. A pump is on scene, pumping thousands of litres of water back into the river.
Up stream at the McAloney Road industrial site, crews continue working on an earth berm.
At Delhaven the water has receded, the photo on the left is from Saturday morning, and the photo on the right is from today.
The water levels have dropped on the Nechako, however, there is no guarantee the flood situation won’t return if there is a sudden cold snap.
