Prince George, B.C. - River levels remained relatively static overnight and the weather continued to cooperate with City workers and contractors as work to mitigate damage caused by the Nechako ice jam and flood continued.
The weather forecast for the Christmas Day / Boxing Day period is for continued relatively warm weather. If that continues, workers manning pumps in the River Road / Pulp Mill Road areas anticipate keeping up with water levels. Cold weather is expected to return Thursday but a warming trend is predicted to start Saturday morning
Water levels will continue to be monitored 24 hours per day by City crews and Prince George Fire Rescue personnel.
Expenditures on flood mitigation have reached $875,000. This total does not include estimated damage to residential or commercial structures.
Area A – River Road
  • Gabion diking around homes and the fish hatchery is now 95% complete.
  • Pumping continues in all areas.
  • Debris hauling continues, particularly in the Foley Crescent area.
Area B – Ongman Road/McAloney Crescent
·         Pumps remain operating intermittently. This will continue until the river recedes.
Aear C – Pulp Mill Road
·         Round the clock pumping continues to help drop water levels around homes that were flooded.

The City has stockpiled about 5,000 sandbags in case they are required by residents or businesses.
