River Doing Balancing Act

The Nechako River ice jam continued to act unpredictably last night and this morning, growing to a point near its greatest length with water levels rising and falling in different areas.
The jam extended to Wilson Park at 9 a.m. today as it continues to expand and contract.
Water levels rose again in the Delhaven subdivision but were lower downstream near Cottonwood Island Park. This type of behaviour is expected to continue for the immediate future as the jam responds to changing weather and river conditions.
Pumping of trouble spots continues and city workers continue to monitor levels around the clock. All evacuation alerts and orders remain in effect.

I hope the city workers have checked this time to make sure they are not pumping water across the road only to have it run right back through a culvert to where it came from...
Did they really do that?

I went to buy some oil at Esso and they stop you and get your name. Lots of fuss about nothing.
to bad we are spending all the time worrying about people who are in a place that they shouldn't be ( flood plain people) when we don't have enough resource or money to plow the streets where 99.9% of the other taxpayers live
There is plenty of money in this town for plowing streets, and paving roads, problem is the City in its wisdom would sooner spend it on other items like:

(1) A million dollar replay board at the Multiplex (CN Centre)

(2) $550,000.00 for a berm behind the Casino.

(3) $25 Million for a new Police Station, plus $2.75 Million they paid for the property at 4th and Victoria. Once built this means Prince George has the dubious distinction of building a new Police station every 17 years for the past 51 years.

(4) Plans to build a new Performing Arts Centre that will cost in the area of $18 Million or more.

(5) $5 Million for the Citys contribution to the Sportplex Monstrosity on the Hill, with a further $500,000.00 per year or more to run the place. (Has anyone noticed that this facility is highly under utilized. Plus the roof leaks and they have buckets stratigically placed to catch the water.

(6) $400,000.00 for the underpass at Carrie Jane Park, which never seems to be used.

I could go on, however you get my point. We have lots of money, however most of it is misdirected.

The money spent of flood control is Provincial Money, not City.
"The money spent of flood control is Provincial Money, not City."

Which is the reason they are "going to town" with the amount they are spending.

As far as the water coming back in through the culverts, I doubt there are back water gates on the culverts which empty the storm water into the rivers.
don't forget that provical emergency money comes from a capped contigency fund that is based on usage. The more that is spent is taken from the muniple payback...at the end of the day , we all pay. My point is, 4 days of snaow and my street is still no cleaned.
