Prince George, B.C. - Eleven people have been taken to Prince George Regional Hospital suffering minor injuries after the van they were in, rolled.

RCMP say they were called to a single vehicle roll over site about 33 kms east of Prince George, near Tabor Mountain,  this morning.  A 15 passenger van  from Ontario, had rolled.

Police say all eleven people in the van, infant to 43 years of age, were taken to hospital. A five year old, who was not wearing a seatbelt, needed stitches and that appeared to be the most serious injury.

Witnesses say the westbound van was trying to pass another vehicle when  it went off the road.

speed and tires this time of year I think are the two factors that make me a slow studdable kind of driver.
Viagra will also make you studdable, or so I've been told.

That is one heck of a trip if those 11 people came all the way from Ontario in a 15 seater van.
Some people...in a hurry...to die.
And they weren't even on their way to pick strawberries. What a strange difference.
Those vans are probably the most dangerous vehicles on the road .... way too top heavy and flip even more easily than SUVs ...

"Over 1,000 people have died in 15-passenger van rollover accidents. That's more than any single vehicle in the history of the U.S. auto industry"
and a 5-year old without a seatbelt to a booster seat. STUPID.
I hope they got a super big fine for not having that kid in a booster seat with a belt on. That's criminal negligence from my perspective.
Did any notice that it says the 5 year old was not wearing a seat belt.

The article did not say that the other 10 people were wearing a seat belt.

The criminal thing is that whether this was a large family or some sort of group outing, they should not have been driving this kind of vehicle, especially on a highway at highway speeds. Any sudden movement or force at an angle to the inertia of the vehicle destabilizes it. The faster the speed, the worse it becomes.

As the safety reports on this type of vehicle often state, seat belts may not help much in protecting passengers in a roll situation if it rolls onto the roof.
Slow down, winter road conditions predicted for the rest of the winter.
And who is to say the vehicle being passed wasn't doing 40K and weaving all over the highway?? In some instances driving too slow can cause just as many accidents as driving too fast.
Jim you can always pull over and wait a while or fall back until your a safe distance away. Patience and Due Dilligance my friend!
The idiots that drive much too slow should pull over, or better yet, keep off the road if you are scared to drive.
ON those vans, it is speed that caused the accidents. The high centre of gravity combined with acceleration and poor adhesion of the tires to the surface cause it to spin out of control....

Deceleration almost always helps the driver to regain control.
By deceleration, I mean taking one's foot off of the gas pedal and power away from the rear tires. Since this was a large passenger van, it can be safely said that it was a rear wheel drive.
