Prince George, B.C. – The supply of isotopes at Prince George Regional Hospital, is back to normal.

The isotopes are used in medical tests to diagnose conditions such as heart disease and cancer.

The hospital, like others all over the world, ran out of the item when the Chalk River Ontario nuclear plant was ordered off line  in mid November for an equipment upgrade.  The Chalk River plant is the leading supplier of isotopes for hospitals around the world.

Northern Health spokesperson Eryn Collins says there were four or five patients who had their procedures delayed, but it may have been as a result of the holidays.

The Chalk River facility was back up and running December 20th.
