Prince George, B.C. - The Nechako River spilled over the gabion dike at the Esso card lock on River Road, spilling water into the parking lot area around 6 this morning, there wasn’t enough water to reach River Road.  Crews will be doubling up the height of the gabion diking today and tomorrow as this was the only section of gabion diking that had not been reinforced.   There are five pumps on the scene now, and three more on the way to clear that area.

Water levels have increased  at Del Haven,    up about 16 inches  since  yesterday, and  in the  Ongman Road/ McAloney area,  the water has risen about 12 inches.

Reps from the Fire Department will be visiting the 47 businesses which are on evacuation alert today to advise them to prepare an evacuation plan and share it with their staff.  Most businesses are expected to return to work Monday for the first time since the flood crisis began.

A lot of them had their power cut last night after the river was said to have risen 8 feet in a half hour at some spots. I think everything South of Pulp Mill Road in the low area now has no power.

Makes one wonder what the back up plan is if the ice just simply removes the funny sand dike system they have in place. I think they need to be thinking about secondary lines of defence further from the river as well as the ability to rapidly reinforce sensitive sites throughout the downtown. It seems the city is still in reaction mode and even our elected leaders haven't provided any leadership. We obviously do not have a plan. The height of the river now would flood the downtown if the dike were to be topped or breached.
