A pump  on  the  driveway of a  Pulp Mill Road  home, tries to  clear the water from the  area.

Prince George, B.C.  - Some of the worst flooding to date on the lower end of the Nechako River  took place last night as the ice jam moved from around Del Haven on North Nechako Road back down to Winton Global. The result was that the water rose by between 4 and 6 feet within a matter of minutes on the north side of the Nechako River along Pulp Mill Rd.

Two people  who had recently returned to their  home, had to be rescued by the Prince George Fire Department 's "Water Rescue Team"  who used a Zodiac to  get  to the couple.

Significant flooding then took place along the north and south side of Pulp Mill Rd. in spite of efforts to try and pump out  the ground water seeping through to the homes on the north side of the road.

The resulting flooding sent water back into Winton Global operations along River Road.  The water  crossed the newly section of River Road which had been raised by about 4 feet from it's previous level.   "The water at  that site was 15 inches  higher than the  200 year flood level" says City Spokesman Kevin Brown.

The percolating effect left many businesses along 1st Avenue across the CNR tracks and about 400 meters from the dikes pumping water from their businesses.

Sump pumps were seen pumping water from businesses  along that stretch of 1st Ave and pumper trucks were also trying to pump the water out of business affected by the underground percolation of the flood waters.

Something has to be done about this flooding. I just received a phone call from my employer, Winton Global, that they are shutdown for another week because of this flooding and I won't be working again next week. That makes 4 weeks in total. The government is providing financial aid to the homeowners and businesses, but what about the hundreds of employees who are out of work because of this flooding. Enough is enough!
I would think employee's should be on layoff notice, that way they can apply for EI for the time they are losing, a government payout which employee's are entitled too.
I applied for EI 3 weeks ago when this all started and have not received a cheque yet. I've been told, it takes about 6 weeks to get one. Also, there's a 2 week waiting period with no EI paid for those 2 weeks and then after that, EI only pays 50% of my wages. It's not enough. The homeowners and businesses will be fully compensated. Why shouldn't the employees also receive the same?
hey mythoughts,

I'm a news reporter at CBC, could you email me at radionews@vancouver.cbc.ca ?

Thanks,
Wilson
The Liberals took all the EI Money to balance the budget, apprx 40 Billion and the Conservatives are doing the same. The Employees and Employers have been hosed on EI payments for years. You can thank smilen Mr Dithers Martin for that fiasco.

We need this money put into the hands of the owners where it belongs.
It's clear to me that we will have to "mitigate" this situation
This is getting to be a pretty hairy situation!
Can't help but think that something should have been done to at least try to break up the ice jam when it first started to build, but I guess it's a bit late now.
My condolences to all those affected by this mess!
I had four days off myself due to the flood. Definetely not as much as many are going thru. I have the same feelings about the financial aid not going to affected employees. Hope Wilson Wong can make a big stink about this issue for the government to listen.
Stupid humans.

And this spring construction will start on more homes and such... right along rivers and lakes. This damage will be done and what will happen? Everything will be rebuilt right where it is now only to be flooded again in another year to come. No logic used at any stage.

The older I get and see on this world of ours I'm struck with one thought: humanity is doomed. A species that never learns because it is too selfish and greedy to see beyond the end of their nose cannot survive. The signs are everywhere of this truth and yet nothing changes, no new ideas or challenges to the way things are done now... just more of the same from uncreative minds trying to always "get mine".

I'll know how right I am when the crews get to work in spring.
"Stupid humans."

Just remember Kevin, the maker made humans that way so that we would all lead "exciting" lives and she could watch us from afar as we scramble.

The great spirit hath not gender, owl.

metalman.
In Latin, the masculine grammatical gender means male or female, while the female gender means only female. Roman society was the first, in which women were regarded as citizens, and were respected and valued as individuals. I think this would mean any reference to god would be in the masculine gender if any gender.

Kevin, IMO needs to be more specific. He is to obtuse. :-)
Owl, she??? I think I like that! lol..
I think we all should pitch in and do up a care package for mythoughts and others who come forward. Don't ask why, ask why not?
