Prince George, B.C. -  There will be another Reserve RCMP officer  pounding the pavement  in Prince George this  year.

Jim Verth, a retired RCMP  officer, becomes the second  reservist to work in the Prince George Detachment, along with Cst. Terry Fehr.

The two  will be working in the downtown core and will be primarily foot patrol.

There are advanatages to  using the reservists,  in that they are paid  on a part time basis,  no overtime,  no benefits,  but have all the powers of a regular RCMP officer and yes, they do carry a gun.  That makes it possible for the  detachment to have  qualified officers on the street   at a cost saving.

Superintendant Dahl Chambers   administered the swearing in oath of allegiance and oath of office.

Corporal Mimi Mar, the NCO in charge of the Reserve  and Auxiliary  out of "E" Division in Victoria   came to Prince George for the ceremony.

sounds great, let's just hope that it helps bring back some saftey to the downtown. and with the saftey comes the people back to support the business.

but I have to wonder if they are going to be pounding the pavement at night as well as during the day? assuming they are going to be down there during the day.
Excellent. There has never been any crime prevention tool as effective as a beat cop.
I agree!
Beat cops working a day shift as well as a a night shift, would actually go a long way to cleaning up the downtown area.
Sure,it might drive the lowlifes underground to some extent, but at least it would make their slimey lives a bit more difficult!
And I would think that the eyes on the street would also help to get a good handle on what is really happening first hand,as opposed to reacting AFTER the fact.
Cops need to get off their buts in this town and on their feet.
