Prince George, B.C. -  The  construction to raise River Road  should be complete this morning.  The  construction of the road, which some  call the 6 foot high mud wall,  has become the major  irritant between the City and businesses along River Road.

Brink Forest Products has laid off 100 employees.  President Jon Brink says he cannot guarantee the safety of employees and there is a liability issue so his workers are off.  “It is a shame the workers have to  be the victims here’ says John Brink “but I  have no  information to suggest the  road and ramps are being built to   certain specifications. “   He says he fears the large b-trains will have difficulty on the ramps, and worries there will be an accident.

Brink says he has requested copies of the engineered drawings for the road so his own engineers can examine them, but the City has yet to provide those documents.  “We were told there are drawings, but to this point, the City has not shown them to us.”

The City maintains the road is temporary and will be removed once the flood threat is over.  The  cost of the removal  of the temporary road  will be a “partnership” between the City and the Province  says Premier Gordon Campbell.

Industry has offered a million dollar package to have the permanent berm/dike moved to the south bank of the Nechako, behind their businesses.  So far,   City Hall has not responded to that offer.

MILLIONS SPENT....FOR WHAT? CITY WORKS EGO? I GUESS ITS BEEN GOOD FOR SOME LOCAL CONTRACTORS THAT WOULD NORMALLY BE IDLE.
Same guys that did the ice oval.
WAIT TILL THE ROAD IS OPEN SO THE PUBLIC CAN HAVE A LOOK AT THE MESS. IT WILL OPEN YOUR EYES. I SEE WHY ALL THE BUSINESSES ARE COMPLAINING.

Just wait until that road gets icy.
Giterdun, all I have seen is one contractor so far doing all of the work? Must be some kind of pay off!!!
What do you suggest-public tender? Lets get an engineer to draw up tender documents, then advertise and receive tenders, evaluate and award the contract to only those capable of doing the work. 4 or 5 weeks should be ample time. If this was done it would only give everyone on this site something else to whine about. Most of you are just arm chair quaterbacks- you all have a better way of doing things-yet where are you? Sitting on the side lines judging is sure challenging, isn't it.
Common Sense (lacking)- you assume "some kind of pay off". Do you know the arrangements? The rates? The capabilities? No, you probably don't- but isn't it a lot more fun to assume?
Sitting on the sidelines and being judgemental works fer me. He said unashamed and anonymous and with no apologies to anyone. Just exercising one of my last fading rights which is freedom of speech.
WOW !!! red2b sounds like you are a contractor with all the knowledge of how situations like this work, maybe do some snooping and find out what the charge out rates would be for 25 hired trucks and a crew of 20 men. I am no expert but I am pretty sure that the contractor would be working on time and materials plus 10%. Does it seem fair that we are paying the bill as tax payers to pay the additional 10%? I don't.....
Common Sense- and this proves a "pay off" how? Why should this work be done at cost? Would you donate your time if you had a business? Why couldn't the city coordinate everything? That would save the 10%. Or would it?
Why should taxpayers pay any of the costs? Isn't this a floodplane?
