Drivers Needed In Quesnel To Keep Meals on Wheels Progam Going
By 250 News
Northern Health is looking for some volunteers to help Quesnel's not-for-profit meals on wheels service remain in service
A shortage of drivers is putting the community service at risk of shutting down, which would lead to difficulty for the 27 clients now receiving meals on wheels.
"Volunteers have helped run Quesnel's meals on wheels for the past 16 years. They've done an excellent job of providing this important community service. Unfortunately, some of the volunteers have had to move on to other things. We're asking for people interested in giving a little time to step forward and help keep this service going," said Wendy Burris, Northern Health's home and community care manager in Quesnel.
Meals on wheels provides dinner three times a week to clients in the Quesnel area who live in their own homes but may have difficulty in preparing hot meals on a regular basis. inSite, the operator of the Maeford Place assisted living facility, prepares the meals as a not-for-profit community service. NH provides $9,200 a year in funding for the service, with clients paying $5 per meal to cover the cost of food.
People interested in volunteering can call Wendy Millar at (250) 992-8342. Drivers will need a valid driver's license and either own or have access to a vehicle. Deliveries take place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3:30 to 5:00 in the afternoon.
