Prince George, B.C. - Energy  Minister Richard Neufeld   says the  electrification of the Highway 37 corridor to Bob Quinn Lake will move forward when  Galore Creek moves forward.

He was responding to a request from Rick  Van Nieuwenhuyse, the CEO of NovaGold.  Nieuwenhuyse requested that the Province carry on with the environmental assessment process despite the shut down of the Galore Creek project.

"The environmental assessment process can't move  ahead if there is no idea when the  project ( Galore Creek) might be  ready.  Let's say they are ready in 5 years,  let's say it's longer than that, things can change between now and then."

He says "We will be ready to go, when Nova Gold is ready to go."

The good news is that Neufeld says the Province is committed to  providing a 287 line into that region "We are no less committed to this line now than we were a year ago."  He says the province needs specific time frames and promises if given those time frames, the  Province will  meet all the deadlines.

We can only hope the NDP doesn't put a stop to the power line if it is a few years down the road.

The NDP is committed to less MLA's in the north, don't see how that translates into improving our lot up here. If it isn't unions or housing for the poor, then the NDP are against it.
I agree with YDPC, but the NDP would have to get itself elected to have any control on what is or isn't done.
The odds of that happening are squat, especially under the present leadership!
Equally distasteful is that unfortunately,we are probably stuck with Gordon Campbell.
Liberal, NDP whatever they're all crooks only there to pad their own pockets.
Stop worrying about what the NDP might or might not do. If the Liberals really are committed to the line they should embark upon it now, so there will be no delay when it is needed. Don't let the Liberals slide off on this one. Furthermore the line would act as an impetus to other mines in the area. When Galore is ready charge them the full rate of the connection, plus interest. In the meantime there is some work for all the unemployed in this area.
Yama your're on some good drugs
The Liberals are trying to slide out from under this committment and blame it on Galore going down
There are a number of mines in that area that are waiting to fire up as soon as there is power
Galore is just the big one everyone is talking about
There are also a number of run-of-the-river type projects that need to tie into that line when it does get built
Some mines put the power line in themselves Ie Kemess
You wouldnt run a hydro line onto your property before your house was built, especially if it would by 5 or more years before you build it.

The Liberals are right on this one No Mine, No Power. Dont foreget that some of the power will come from the Galore mine itself, and if its not built then of course less power.

Im sure it will all come together in due course.
If you think this power line could go in overnight you are mistaken
I do not believe they have enven picked a route or surveyed the line yet
that means 2012 before completion at the earliest but only if the project goes
Big-Wayne. This power line is old news and has been on the books for years. Im sure all the route and surveying has been done long ago.

Look up on the internet **Electification of the Highway 37 Corridor to Canada's Golden Triangle** Prepared by the Northwest Powerline Coalition November 2005.** Makes for interesting reading.
