Weigh Scale Relocation Moves Ahead

Prince George, B.C. - The weigh scale relocation project on Highway 97, south of the city, is moving on to the construction tender stage, thanks to funding from the Building Canada Plan.
Prince George MLAs, Shirley Bond, Pat Bell, and John Rustad were on-hand, along with federal Secretary of State Jay Hill to announce the $29.7-million dollar project is eligible to receive a maximum of $11.3-million dollars under the Plan.
The project involves twinning a five-kilometre section of Highway 97 and relocating the commercial vehicle inspection station near Red Rock Road, 20-kilometres south of Prince George. The work will begin this spring and is expected to be completed in 2009.
Jay Hill, MP for Prince George-Peace River, says, "The relocation of the inspection station will help ease congestion and pressure on Highway 97 outside of Prince George and will contribute to the faster and safer flow of local, tourist and trade traffic."
Prince George-Mount Robson MLA, Shirley Bond, says project is an important one along the Cariboo corridor and is part of the provincial government's commitment to revitalizing BC's highways, bridges, ports, and airports.
