Prince George, B.C. -  The weigh scale relocation project on Highway 97, south of the city, is moving on to the construction tender stage, thanks to funding from the Building Canada Plan.

Prince George MLAs, Shirley Bond, Pat Bell, and John Rustad were on-hand, along with federal Secretary of State Jay Hill to announce the $29.7-million dollar project is eligible to receive a maximum of $11.3-million dollars under the Plan.

The project involves twinning a five-kilometre section of Highway 97 and relocating the commercial vehicle inspection station near Red Rock Road, 20-kilometres south of Prince George.  The work will begin this spring and is expected to be completed in 2009.

Jay Hill, MP for Prince George-Peace River, says, "The relocation of the inspection station will help ease congestion and pressure on Highway 97 outside of Prince George and will contribute to the faster and safer flow of local, tourist and trade traffic."

Prince George-Mount Robson MLA, Shirley Bond, says project is an important one along the Cariboo corridor and is part of the provincial government's commitment to revitalizing BC's highways, bridges, ports, and airports.

Another 5 km of the Cariboo CONnector to be completed. This is moving along at a dizzying pace for sure. Just vote Liberal for the next 85 elections to ensure further progress is made.
Why is Jay Hill doing this??? This is Harris's riding, one would think he would be trying for the glory.
Harris who?

So far south, eh? Interesting. The pieces might be coming together.
Mr Hill, are you a glory seeker?
Are you someone important?
And yes, what are you doing in Mr Harris's riding?
IMO its a small drop in the bucket compared to what they should be doing, but its a good starting point. This kind of thing should have been done 20 years ago. I wonder what will happen with the current scale station if it would stay open like the one on the Hart as a temporary spot check station or would they close it and sell the land.

IMO Jay Hill is the senior politician and Dick is the lame duck, so Jay got the nod from Steve. Dick probably wasn't even aware of the plan to move the scales, much less the Cariboo Connector.
Somebody has to do something in Harris' riding. He doesn't.

I think we should have scales out near Mud River or Beaverly as moving the scales out of the BCR will allow overloaded trucks coming from out west into PG and down College Heights and Peden Hill without ever hitting a set of scales.
