In an exclusive interview following  an emergncy meeting, BC Federation of Labor President Jim Sinclair tells Opinion 250 News, the government’s proposed bill forcing teachers back to work will not help one single school child in this province. “If we are interested in Education” Sinclair says” then surely we should have the interests of the students at heart.”

He dismisses the argument that the government has no money as rubbish. “We have made $400 million in corporation tax cuts” says Sinclair “and we have no money for teachers?”

Government he says has a chance in the next few days to figure this thing out right. “
The teachers have sat down 35 times with the employers who have a mandate to say only “no”. “Surely government doesn’t think that the teachers are going to say this legislation is fine and then say goodbye”

That may have been the old way of it working, but it isn’t going to work this time said Sinclair

Earlier today, the government introduced legislation that extended the teachers contract till the end of this school year.

Jim Sinclair says preventing teachers from walking out will not help one single school child. Does this guy ever listen to what crap comes out his mouth?
Could it be that Sinclair is interest4ed in more than having a reluctant body in charge of a class of students? The proverb is, "You can take a horse to water, but you can't make it drink." The same applies to teachers, you can abuse the force of law and compel them to be presnt in the classroom, but you can't force them to develope an interest in what they are doing and you can't force them to go the extra mile to make sure the students really understand the material being taught. What do you want, Yamadamadingdong, classrooms led by reluctant, apathetic bodies or by actively interested and self motivated leaders? I think the latter would benefit children's education more.
Yamadamadingaling is talking out of his rear.

I find it remarkable, absolutely remarkable to see the nice tax cuts for corporations, who really don't need it, while we take away the rights of teachers.

We all deserve better for the kids. We really do. We'll whine and gripe and *** about kids, but we won't do anything to help them.

Dylan Harris and Eric Kliebold weren't crazy. They were just kids in need of serious help.

With the recent actions of this government, are we once again telling kids, they don't matter?

I do believe we are.
From the posts here it looks like we have a real pool of talent which should be teaching and running business and building BC. I wonder why they can't walk the talk?
I love how the government propaganda machine works. Like it says in the above story the teacher's employers are MANDATED by the givernment to say no to any wages increase, or any changes to the current IMPOSED collective agreement. The two sides get together... and suprise suprise no progress is made. Then the good-hearted government can step in and say the since no progress is being made, in the best interests of students, we will impose a contract. I think we had better take a step back and look at the results when the Liberal government has our best interests at heart.....
-the sale of BC Rail
-the murder of Sherry Charlie and the ensuing government attempt at cover-up
-holding meetings on economic diversification ostensibly put on by the government, and funnelling the money directly to the Liberal Party

We should all shudder whenever the government says "we have your best interests" in mind.

-off on a rant
