Prince George, B.C. - Local business will be represented at three upcoming job fairs in a bid to connect Prince George employers with potential employees...the first fair is set for the much-beleaguered community of Mackenzie.
As part of the Skilled Labour Recruitment and Retention Program -- a partnership between the Prince George Chamber of Commerce and Initiatives Prince George -- representatives will attend the fairs to give out information on specific job openings and businesses in Prince George, as well as bring back resumes to participating businesses.
The first fair takes place early next month in Mackenzie and Project Manager Christie Ray says the aim is to help Prince George businesses find specific skilled labour, as well as help the region to retain its valuable workforce and allow people to stay within or close to their home communities.
Mayor Colin Kinsley says, "Our community and region has much to offer and, with the growth we are seeing, we need to retain not only our own, but, in fact, our regional workforce."
The second job fair occurs at the end of February. Ray says the city will be represented at a highly-targeted job fair throughout the vehicle and steel manufacturing area of Ontario.
The third is a local event -- the CNC/UNBC job fair for businesses looking to employ recent or soon-to-be grads.
Chamber of Commerce President, Garth Frizzell is encouraging interested local businesses to sign on to the program. Frizzell says, "Prince George needs to continue looking for every opportunity to make workers aware of the incomparable opportunities and quality of life in our city."
