Prince George, B.C. -  The Canadian Red Cross is appealing for financial donations to address the needs of those resident affected by the ongoing flood threat on the Nechako River.

CRC's Disaster Management Coordinator says caseworkers have met with 32 families to date, assisting them with referrals to other organizations and guidance in situations where there may be gaps in assistance.

Sherri Flavel says, "We are committed to supporting the people affected by the flooding for the duration of this response."  She says, "When people are able to return home and the true extent of the damage can be determined, more needs may arise, but we have a responsibility to these people now to ensure that they continue to receive the services and support they need to get through this."

Flavel says financial contributions are greatly appreciated as they provide the most flexible and efficient way of helping those in need.  She says donations of personal or household items, while well-intentioned, are not the best way to help.

Donations can in support of the Prince George Winter Flood Response can be made online at www.redcross.ca or by calling 1-800-418-1111.
