Prince George, B.C. - City officials expect to have a new dollar estimate available on the cost of dealing with the Nechako flood crisis later today.
At last count, the tally stood at $2.7-million dollars, but that figure was released before the arrival of Eco Technologies' Amphibex water excavator and before the pipeline was being laid for the warm water proposal.
In addition, efforts to shore up many of the preventative measures in place -- the gabion diking and earth berms -- have continued throughout the week.
Will those efforts be enough? "We are confident that we are as prepared, as ever, for the next ice shift and water shift event," says the City's Liaison Officer, Kevin Brown.
"However -- given that the current forecast would suggest we're going to continue in a period of sub-zero temperatures, even getting very, very cold towards the end of next week -- we are not expecting to have to deal with any ice shift and water shift events while the weather remains cold."
But Brown adds confidence in the measures comes from an observation by Fire Chief Jeff Rowland who said following the January 5th surge that, in his opinion, had the portable diking and earth berms not been in place, there would have been a devastating impact from the flooding.
