Prince George, B.C. -  Today marks the final delivery day for Veeken Eggs...

The local egg supplier is closing its doors for good after making final deliveries to customers this afternoon...meaning the end of five full-time and four part-time jobs.

Owner, Theresa Andren, says the business began 54-years ago, but a combination of factors -- including financial ones -- led to the decision to close.

She says customers have been wondering out loud where they’re going to get their eggs from now, but she says the demand will be met by producers from the Lower Mainland.

Andren says Veeken did the egg grading, some production, and the distribution of eggs, but she says Veekens’ wasn’t able to meet all demand with local product and had been supplementing with eggs from elsewhere.

The now former owner of Veeken Eggs says she plans to take some time off and consider her options, but definitely plans to remain in Prince George, being born and raised here.

I understand the need to chill but I really like local production and will miss them. I am uncomfortable with not having local producers. Global economy would shut down really quickly with a global disaster.
Very sad to hear. They had awesome eggs.
we need to ensure that local producers are supported. Go to the farmers market!! There is a list floating around with names and numbers for ordering all sorts of local foods. I found one a Sass and Frass on George st.
Sorry to see them close!
They were a great little business!
Damn! Nothing better than home grown eggs.
Hmmmm! Can't blame our high dollar. Because I am sure the chicken came first.
Is this one city councils fault too?
Yup lets blame city council for making agricultural lands more profitable as alternate uses such as industrial lands or such.
Well it's not exactly city councils fault, but I do remember Councilor Deb saying that we have to cut back on all the diesel trucks coming into PG to make the air better.

Now it looks like that is going to be a difficult target and still eat eggs in this town.

So are the coucilors going to run the next election on a choice? Eggs or air?
250 reported approx one year ago that Veeken s would be closing. As I recall they have the only licence in the interior from the egg marketing board, and their quota has now been given to the egg producers in the Fraser Valley.

Suck it up Prince George their is nothing wrong with one or two day old eggs.
