Prince George, B.C. -  No major movement on the Nechako River icejam overnight...

After two major incidents on the river late yesterday afternoon, there were concerns the water and ice building upstream at the head of the jam might breakthrough overnight.

But the City's Public Liaison Officer, Kevin Brown, says the situation remains relatively unchanged.  He says a pump installed in the Morning Place area proved to be ineffective, as "there wasn't water and the lines were freezing, so no new surge around the homes up around there."

Brown says, "The open leads in the lower Nechako are still flowing fast and open, so the minus 30-something temperatures aren't causing any new problems downstream."

The length of the open channel remains approximately five-kilometres, with the icejam pegged at approximately 14.5-kilometres in length, but a more precise estimate is expected later this morning.

Man proposes, God disposes. Lets see what happens as everything freezes solid, again.

You people should get out of your warm houses and look at the River. Although the Amphibex has broken some ice loose in the North East corner of the Nechako and widened the Channel somewhat it has had absolutely no effect on the river, or the flow of water.

What we now have here is a bunch of people with self fulfilling prophicies.** We said it would work, therefore it is working.**

There is not a whit of evidence at this time that this project was or is a success.

Go take a look now palpou- Seems to be a lot of open water and a lot of flowing water. Maybe time for you to eat the crow you have been saving for Ben!
Water levels around the pulpmill pumphouse have dropped 4-6 feet thanks to the amphibex boys. I think if they would have been called in at the beginning we wouldn't be in the trouble we're in upstream. In regards to that pipe flowing into the already open and raging Nechako, I don't think it will do squat.
Saw a picture of hizzoner on the front page of our paper this morning. Standing by a dike with a firefighter alongside. For a moment there I thought the mayor was having a wiz. But on closer inspection, he wasn't. Why was a firefighter along side the mayor at a flooding ice jammed river? Specially trained? No one else available? Maybe one day we might see a picture of hizzoner at a major fire in this town standing beside a local arena ice making employee watching the fire. . Makes as much sense.

As other articles outline, the firemen are helping out with the flood control by manning/moving pumps etc. I guess you feel that they should just stay in the firehall? Your comparison to the icemaker at a fire makes for comedy (barely) but thats about all.

Damned if you do-damned if you don't as far as the mayor is concerned.
Pumping the water back into the river? Uh, oh, OK.
Back into the river further downstream too, I bet.
Pulpworker if it won't do squat I wonder if they can get a refund?

I hope for less hassle in peoples minds that it helps. Hopefully we can purchase an amphibex that comes with one of the boys that know the machine and tackle the ice right away come December.
