Prince George, B.C. -    With the Nechako icejam now beyond the City’s municipal boundary, the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George is getting involved.

The Regional District has activated its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC)  to level one.  Spokesperson Renee McCloskey says notices have been  distributed to five property owners along Old Takla Forest Road about the possibility of road access being limited or cut off completely.

She says the notices also encourage to prepare themselves, should an evacuation become necessary, although McCloskey says no evacuation alerts or orders have been issued at this time.

As of 3pm yesterday afternoon, river levels were reaching close to the road at some points and some of the driveways into residences in the area.  The Regional District spokesperson says staff will continue to monitor the area closely.

McCloskey says staff have also surveyed the area around Miworth and there do not appear to be any immediate risk to homes in that area.

Residents living in the rural area to the west of Prince George are being advised to check the district’s website at www.rdffg.bc.ca for updated flood information, or they can phoned the Emergency Operations Centre directly at 1-250-960-4475 or toll free at 1-800-667-1959.
