Spectra Energy Income Fund , a natural gas infrastructure company, is proposing to expand its gathering facility in northeastern B.C. to handle another 40 million cubic feet of gas per day.
The project announced Monday is part of a third phase of expansion that would carry gas from the Grizzly Valley area to Spectra´s Pine River Processing Plant near Chetwynd.
"We´re encouraged by the exploration and development activity in the Grizzly Valley area and the requests from our customers for increased service capacity," said Gary Weilinger, president of Spectra´s B.C. pipeline and field services divisions.
About 17 kilometres of new pipeline will be laid parallel to Spectra´s existing lines and will add gathering capacity of more than 40 million cubic feet per day.
Spectra applied for approval from the National Energy Board in December and expects the expansion to be operational by November of this year.
