Yes, landlords should be very diligent. But, heaven forbid that they should notify or warn other landlords of unsuitable tenants. Chester
"Police say landlords should be very diligent when selecting tenants in order to prevent damage to their property caused by drug dealers and users."

What a great idea !
The police can pre-screen prospective tenants, and once they are cleared to rent, the landlord can rest easy knowing he or she has good tenants.
I think the police time can be better spent on slowing the gang war trend rather than doing paperwork and background checks on possible tenants around town. Lets be realistic here.
I agree radio guy, hit the crack shacks every day. You take the money out of the equation and gang life wouldn't look nearly as attractive.
I think it is time for a "bad tenant" registry to be created!!

I tried to attend the last "Landlord" meeting they had in Prince George, and was told that since I wasn't a landlord I was not allowed to stay. At that point I told them why I was there and wanted to suggest that the landlords start a petition to get a "bad tenant" registry started. I stated that upon a registry being started it would only be accessible by landlords who have to register and get issued a user # to use it, but then they could check and keep track of "bad tenants".

As well with a registry of such in place then the RCMP and other parties would be able to make "slumlords" accountable as well.

This also may be the start to cleaning up some parts of this city!!

I think it would work!!
A tenant registry is a great idea, it seems tenants have all the rights and the landlords have none.
To bad the crack shacks aren't having as many shutdowns as the mills are.
Do you know how many drug addicts and drunks are on the welfare system ???? That is the first thing that should be changed, cut them all off, let the lazy B's work like the rest of us and they wouldnt have time for all the drugs and booze.
What a simple solution, and think of the money it would save .
Midnight you bring up another pet peeve of mine, that being all people that are on welfare and drug addicts and alcoholics, I think that if you are going to be collecting my hard earned money you should have to take a drug test prior to being priviledged to money.

there are many of us in different work environments that are subject to urine tests for drugs, so if you are going to get my hard earned money for nothing the least they should have to do is take a simple urine test to make sure they are clean and we are not just enabling them to continue on the road of distruction!! accountablity people accountablity.
Anastasia, we have some similar and very good idea's, how come the politicians never think of these solutions ? maybe they would be in violation of the privacy act, what a system we have in place !!
