Prince George, B.C. - A protest is under way at the Carrier Sekani Family Services office on Queensway and 4th Avenue in Prince George.
A number of residents from the Stellako Band showed up to protest what they say is the lack of funding reaching the people in that community.
Dennis Patrick, former Chief of the Stellako Band is calling for a financial review “We want the Band office to open the books. We want to know where the money they are receiving is going.” According to Patrick, the Carrier Sekani Family Services office receives a lot of money for 11 communities “We don’t know where that money is going. I know one thing for sure, the money is not getting to the people. It seems that when we have a surplus, it gets used down at the 108.”
Angelina Patrick says the whole matter came to a head after one of the elders was told that she was going to be put into a home. She was on her death bed and all she wanted to do was to die in dignity at home. “They didn’t want her to do that and I think the pressure got to her and she died before they were able to move her out of her home. I am tired of hearing that people are being hired, hired for what?” asks Angelina Patrick.

They should be open to anyone who wants to see them.
There are many native people who have concerns about how the money is spent and this is not anything new.
Even the government who hands out the money in the first place doesn't seem to be able to find out where it goes all goes.
The band councils should be held accountable to their people for every cent, as well as to the source of much of that money, the canadian taxpayers.
