Prince George, B.C. - Opinion 250 has learned, Prince George will host the trials for the Olympic Trials in November of 2009.

The event will see 12 men’s curling teams, and twelve women’s curling teams coming to Prince George, the top four of each will head to Edmonton where the Olympic Trails will be held in December.

Edmonton  won out over Kamloops which had also  applied to host the Olympic Trials.

The official announcement is not expected to come until Friday at the Brier which is underway in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg was also said to be after this event, and despite Manitoba Curling Association  spokesman Ian Staniloff saying there were discussions underway for financial backing,  Manitoba never did file a formal proposal.

The week long event, is expected to pump as much as $2. million into the local economy.

When contacted for comment, Events Prince George’s Virginia Sprangers said she was not able to confirm what Opinion 250 had learned, “But I would certainly  be pleased if  that in  fact turns out to be what happens.”

Events Prince George, has sent it’s Curling Bid Chair, Neil King, to the Brier for the Friday announcement.
