Price George, B.C.- The Province has announced some road resurfacing projects about 50 kms north of Prince George.

The first project will rehabilitate approximately 10.5 km of Highway 97 North between O'Dell Road to 2.3km past Tallus Road.  The work will include pulverizing the existing surface and repaving it.  The contract tender opened on March 6 with work expected to begin in June.

The second project includes resurfacing 15 km of Highway 97 between Salmon River Bridge and O'Dell Road, plus nearly 34 km between 2.3 km north of Tallus Road to Red Rocky Creek. The work will be done using the hot-in-place recycling method.  The contract advertising date was March 11, 2008 and work is scheduled to begin in June.

Hopefully they get a better contractor than the last one that did that area. They left starting so late in the summer they couldn't finish before the snow came so they left the road as a construction site over the winter and then started the next summer. Because the surface wasn't properly finished off before winter and then how they started up again the next summer it was a huge disaster, for the amount of the contract !
at least we are getting some road work done all the $$ are being spent in the golden valley and ignore us wven with 3 MLA's
sorry about that i should read before i hit send

Indeed. If they built the roads properly, to handle the heavy trucks, and frost, we would not have to resurface them as often. There are exceptions, muskeg and other swampy or wet ground is more challenging to build a road on, but spend the money at the beginning, build a bullet proof base, make sure water cannot get under it, and pave it properly, like an airport runway. Now you have a very expensive highway that will not need reconditioning as frequently as the roads we suffer with at present.
metalman.
Part of the problem is that they do not actually pave any more.
They patch, they sealcoat, they pulverize and put it right back down, then they re-patch the patches, but they do not really pave anything other than a brand new road, which requires a good base and real ashphalt.
They are kidding themselves.
And it is catching up to them, judging by the conditions of our roads!
Metalman has it right. If you do it right in the first place you dont have to repair it so often. The same applies to City streets, and potholes. These recycling methods are a waste of time and money.
