Prince George, B.C. – Vacations to southern destinations are about to get more expensive.

With the price of a barrel of crude oil  in the $110. 00 range, airlines are taking a hit.

Air Transat is announcing a boost to the fuel surcharge on its southern destinations.

As of Monday, the surcharge for a round trip  flight to a southern  destination (international ) flight will be increased by another $20 dollars making the fuel surchare part of your Air Transat package  $120 dollars per round trip.

The surcharge does not apply to trips already booked, or booked before the Monday , March 17th deadline.

This is the second surcharge hike for Air Transat tours, as the company had   boosted fuel surcharges in February for some of it’s long haul European destination flights.

LOL, just wait until all the hippies that were cheering oil price increases realize it is going to affect everything around us, not just gas for our cars.

No one said destroying our planet was going to be cheap.

My retirement portfolio is loving the price increases. Thanks to everyone who chooses to drive an unnecessarily large vehicle. The more you idle, the earlier I retire. Of course, you'll probably kill me long before I'm ready to retire.
Maybe your retirement portfolio will also like the lower value of the dollar as well, because that is what's driving the price of oil higher. The American dollar is in free fall because of the monetary inflation (printing free money) that decreases the value of existing dollars in circulation. Canada's policy is to try and match the Canadian dollar with the American dollar at par by devaluing our currency giving free dollars to the international banksters. Priced against gold we’ve lost 75% of our currency value in only 5-years.

Its a quid pro quo that you pay at the pumps and the international banksters collect in their high priced bonus and service fees as compensation for their unregulated loan sharking scams that are destroying our economy.
Here's another reason why our gas prices and other costs are going up. From today's Victoria Times - Colonist.

But tucked in amidst all the carbon tax justifications in Taylor's budget was the news that the "corporation capital tax" is being phased out. Not only is she giving them a break, but in typical Taylor style, it's going over fairly smoothly. It takes a certain amount of finesse to not only give the banks a break, but manoeuvre it through a budget without bringing people to the barricades.
New Democrats have mounted a valiant effort over the past few weeks to foment a revolution.

I look forward to the upcoming municipal elections this year. One topic which won't be addressed will be tourism. What with energy prices going skyward. That only leaves downtown revitalization. What a hum drum boring campaign this will be. Who needs a public campground this year here in PG. Maybe in Cottonwood Park? Free scuba gear for all campers.
I look forward to lots of whining and sniveling for more business tax breaks as their profits fall. People on fixed incomes will have some choices to make. Drive or walk, eat or travel, heat the house or eat out. In my case there won't be any holidays south or many nights of dining out. My entertainment buck will shrink also. No more hockey games, shows, etc. In the rush to make more and more for their bottom line, some of these companies are going to kill the goose that laid the golden egg. Maybe some of them will have to downsize also. Choices, Choices. More to come.
Bang on Old Hippy!
But, we are just the average taxpayer and of no importance whatsoever!
What could we possibly understand about the trickle-down effect of all this?
That is only for financial wizards and politicians!
:-)
Old Hippy makes some good points. People on lower incomes will be effected by these price increases more so than the higher end.

In addition they have no way to fight the good fight. No vested interests groups, slobbering at the public trough. No unions demanding higher wages to compensate for inflation. No fat cat Government jobs with all the benefits to carry them through hardtimes. They just have to bite the bullet and make do as usual.

As for the next election it should be fought on the following issues.

1. Fiscal Responsibility
2. Reduction in taxes
3. Reduction in the cost of running City Hall and associated facilities, such as recreation facilities, the Art Centre, Swimming Pools, Ice Rinks, IPG, and associates.
4. Re-allocate funds from Terason Gas, Police Fine Money,. Gas rebate money from the Feds, Gambling Money. These monies amount to approx $5 Million a year and disapear into areas where they can be used at the leisure of the Mayor and Council.

5. Any and all savings should be allocated to Pave our Roads, and look after infrastruce and reduce our debt that must be over $100 Million dollars.

6. Ensure that the Co-Generation Plant downtown is not built, and the New Police Station, and the Performing Arts Centre, these projects along with the Cameron St. Bridge will cost us in excess of $70 Million dollars.

7. We need more information from City Hall on what is going on so that we can make up our minds what we support and what we dont.
When we hear about these projects they are usually in their final stages. All capital projects shuld be subject to some form of referendum to get the true sense of the community. We shouldnt have instances like the BackPacker where the majority of the Citizens are not in favour of the location but it goes ahead anyway. This is hardly democratic.

There are lots of issues to fight the next election on. The question is **Who will bell the cat***
Also a good post Palopu!
The quickest way to end a polticial career, on any level, is to forget who elected you and why.
And if politicians never bother to ask what it is that people need and want, they WILL forget that part.
Never assume anything.
The price of gas keeps going up but people ain't parking their vehicles. I still see snowmobilers going to the mountains, motorhomes on the highways, etc.
People cut down on other things but never on their vehicles. For many a vehicle is a gateway to freedom and it will not change.
Politicians can't change the price at the pump.
And guess who has the biggest investments in Exxon and wants more profit? The trade-unions, thats who.
They have their pension funds invested in oil companies.
"Politicians can't change the price at the pump"
Actually, they CAN, but that is not going to happen.
So we deal with it, and don't think for one second the politicians and the oil companies don't understand that perfectly!
