Job Fairs Pay Off for Skilled Labour Program

Prince George, B.C. - The Skilled Labour Recruitment and Retention Program is claiming success from its series of job fairs.
The names of 800 people, interested in coming to Prince George, have been added to the program's data base.
Now the program is trying to help local employers meet their labour force needs.
There was a series of fairs in Southern Ontario in the cities of Kitchener, Windsor, Hamilton and Toronto. Approximately 800 resumes were collected from workers looking to continue careers in BC. The fit is great between positions Prince George employers are reporting as being hard to fill and available skill sets.
Project Manager Christie Ray reports incredible interest from engineers, engineering technicians and a variety of other technical related workers. "The people we are seeing at these shows not only have the skills our employers need, but are enthusiastic about life in Prince George."
Resumes were also collected closer to home last week. Participation in the Northworks Job Fair at the College of New Caledonia and the University of Northern BC yielded more than forty local resumes - primarily new grads looking to begin careers and students looking for summer work. Retention of post secondary graduates is an important part of increasing the Prince George workforce, and so is a significant area of interest for the Skilled Labour Recruitment and Retention Program.
